Peacekeeping Monitor Training
This course takes place over 12 hours of training contact time, plus supervised fields visit. In addition, participants will also explore and reflect on the topic independently and carry out guided research, amounting in total to 30 hours of learning. The content covered will prepare participants to take on the role of Peacekeeping Monitor at interface areas.
Topics covered will include:
- The wide and changing role of monitors
- The relationship between Peacekeeping Monitoring and Community Relations
- Exploring the monitoring context and history (including a chance to visit an interface area)
- Self Awareness when monitoring & good practice matters
- How to report appropriately based on monitoring observations
These topics will be covered using a mixture of practical exercises, group discussion, input from trainers, direct experience and personal reflection. Participants will also be encouraged to work independently on the subject between sessions using discussion with other people and observation of relevant media reports
