The Most Project held its official launch on the 25th November 2009 in the Long Gallery at Parliament Buildings, Stormont marking a significant milestone in the life of the project.

The project is Mediation Northern Ireland’s latest venture and is funded through the European Union’s PEACE III Programme managed by the SEUPB.

The launch was aimed at highlighting the aims and objectives of the project, particularly in relation to the learning exchanges under the six themes of Policing & Justice, Local Governance, Faith & Leadership, Youth, Housing and Media.

Mediation Northern Ireland were delighted to welcome our project partners from the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation (MCIC) alongside representatives from key institutions in Northern Ireland and the six Border Counties.

The event was introduced by two of our sponsors, Cllr Willie Clarke, MLA and Mr. Basil McCrea, MLA.

The Director of Mediation Northern Ireland, Mr Peter O’Reilly, made the opening remarks, commenting on the importance of the MOST Project in the current political, economic and social climate:

“The events reported in the news serve to remind us of the need to keep working and supporting each other in the development of our capacity to deliver a future that is shared.  There is no section of our society that doesn’t have a role to play.”

The Executive Director of MCIC, Sašo Klekovski, was the keynote speaker for the evening. His speech and presentation highlighted the similarities between Northern Ireland and Macedonia in relation to our conflict and the ongoing work to resolve these conflicts. Peter Osborne made himself and his innovative technology available to conduct a survey of opinions on the project as a whole and each thematic element. This provided some excellent and immediate feedback.

It was clear from the question and answer session that followed this that the project had captured the imagination of the attendees, in particular the Macedonian connection.

We would like to thank the three sponsors of our event, Cllr Willie Clarke, MLA, Mr. Basil McCrea, MLA and Mr. Alex Attwood, MLA. We would also like to thank our funding body, speakers, participants and all those who contributed to a successful evening.
